Remarks from users:

ECG was a part of Sylvania, some years back, before Philips bought them. They were a manufacturer of vacuum tubes, so it seems natural that they would transition into solid state devices as they became more popular. When I worked in field service for an international medical imaging company, we used ECG replacements quite a bit.

Philips ECG is a direct competitor to the RCA SK series of replacement semiconductors.
